Memphis Zoo Virtual Field Trip
Leoma Elementary School 6th graders participated in a Rainforest lesson taught by the
education team at the Memphis Zoo via the internet and equipment purchased through a grant with the Memphis Zoo.
Students were engaged throughout the field trip. The students especially enjoyed the fact that the teacher could talk directly to them and answer their specific questions.
Virtual field trips involve the use of videoconferencing and audio conferencing technologies to permit students in one location to virtually visit and learn about people or places in another location.
The use of Tandberg and other sound stations make this form of communication more accessible in education.
Videoconferencing is increasingly used for educational virtual field trips, since this connectivity
option eliminates connection costs over the commodity Internet.
Six schools throughout Lawrence County now have the capability for virtual field trips and other live streaming activities.
